Stress aggravates them - you'll get more outbreaks. I've had them for about 4 years now, and get them about once every 4 - 6 weeks. Of course I am married to the fella that gave them to me, and he gets them about once a month. We don't get intimate when either of us have an outbreak.

They're really not that big a deal- an inconvenience, not a real problem. I find baby powder helps with the itching and they go away in about four days. Valtrex didn't work for my husband and I can't take it - but I hear it is very helpful in many cases, so give it a try especially if you have a drug plan.

Don't let it ruin your life, it's just a rash, really. But do tell any future partners about it before you get intimate. It's your responsiblity now.

I've heard that the longer you have herpes the less severe and frequent the outbreaks will be. There isn't a clear answer because an outbreak can occur for many reasons stress, illness or a combination of both.
