Best State - State of Bliss
Worst State - State of Confusion
Philosophically speaking, of course.....otherwise, it's just personal choice and the limitations you place on yourself. You could live in a State of Transition, learn a job you can do totally thru the Internet and Cell Phones so you're not tied to one spot, sell your home, buy an RV as big as a bus, fill it with Bio-Willie Biodiesel fuel and become a peripatetic searcher for a place to put down roots. And on the other hand, you may end up in a State Of Indecision because you've discovered so many nice places you can't decide on one.
Peace and Luck in your search.

Texas is the best state to live in due to it's sheer size and the state government's tax laws. Texans only pay income tax to the Federal Government. It truly is The Great State.
Texas is also the product of a violent revolution that was in some way centered on the right to bear arms. This fact has not been lost on the majority of Texans, as we still love our firearms as much now as we did then. History will show that the ones with the most guns are the ones with the most freedom, and who doesn't love freedom.
So come to Texas, where we love Guns, Freedom, America, and most of all, Texas.

Best states: Virginia, Texas and Washington
These states tend to have favorable business climates, which lead to favorable economic circumstances for their residents. They are physically attractive and have good climates. They also tend to be socially and politically progressive, considerate of their futures but also of their past. All of these things work together to create an environment conducive to better living."
Worst states include:
Illinois, CA, NY and Laredo, TX
327. Kankakee, IL
328. Merced, CA
329. Newburgh, NY
330. Stockton-Lodi, CA
331. Laredo, TX
BERT: "Areas at the bottom typically have … high unemployment, crime and cost of living combined with low educational attainment, a lack of amenities and not much to do. That said, most places at the bottom of the list, such as Stockton-Lodi, recognize their shortcomings and are actively working to improve."

THE STATE OF IGNORANCE
What's worse being led around by the nose and resenting it? Or being led around by the nose and not knowing it.
So many of our "leaders" rely on a population that not only doesn't know that the leader is lying, but is willing to fill in the blanks when those leaders issue emotion-based, arguments to real and artificial problems.
THE STATE OF LAZINESS
One reason for embracing ignorance is that it justifies our letting evil people do the work for us. Knowing the truth is an obligation to act on the truth, regardless of the issue. And as long as we let "leaders" give us 15-second answers to life-shattering problems, we prove nothing more than the population is satisfied with being lazy, at least until the fascists are knocking on their doors.

Best State: Pennsylvania, yeah we got nothing really big here except some historical sites. But we don't have any major natural disasters (except the floods on occasions).
Worst state: North Dakota, what do they have there? what ever came out of North Dakota? what's North Dakota good for? In fact what I could ask and say the same thing as South Dakota.

Worst state to live in for me would be Washington state. I've lived here my whole life, and honestly there is nothing but rain. It rains in the summer too. Lets say our season is RAIN, RAIN, RAIN, and maybe SUNSHINE! That's probably why we have the highest suicide rate. Our weather is depressing, and there isn't much to do. We have a lot of accidents too, because Washington state drivers don't have the best ability to drive in their car because it rains so much. LOL they blame the rain for not being able to drive, but they've lived here their whole life. So your insurance rate is going to go up if you move here. Another thing is our tax is high! I mean literally they try to say it's low, but if you research Washington state tax is HIGH as MUG! Another thing is there's not much to do period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after you've seen all the sights then there's nothing to do. LOL you can't go out and enjoy the sun LOL because there's not sun! hahaha

I don't know about best, but California is pretty nice. I have lived here all my life and it has a lot to offer: mountains, beach, theme parks, deserts, interesting people, ect. And i have visited other states that don't have so much or talked to others who live in other states, and California is pretty nice.

i agree with hellsvixen. There isn't any housing in Illinois, no jobs, and i recently learned that illinois is the only state that puts more funding into prisons than it's schools. Ilinois is very political, if you don't have any connections you're screwed.
i have no idea what's the best place to live though, i haven't lived anywhere else.

California on both counts. The serene mountains in small communities are absolutely wonderful with friendly people and a casual easy lifestyle. The big cities are exactly the opposite with unbelievable traffic congestion, gangs, and extortionate housing expenses.
California has it all. I have to tolerate living and working in one area so I can enjoy occassional time in another.
