I bought a 4m palm tree about 3 years ago. Transported it some 30miles to my house and it's fine. It was, however, not an easy thing to do. It took 4 people to get it in to my garden and plant it.

If it is your baby and you are moving take it,the best way to do so is with a trenching shovel or similar make a trench approx 10inches away from base of trunk as deep as the shovel will reach approx 12-18 inches then fill and compact sawdust in to trench leave for up to 2-3 weeks then transplant just dont forget to have the palm staked from four corners to support it when you have dug the trench. ps try to keep moist as possible to promote root growth.

The good thing about palm trees is that they have a very small rootball. It may not be a real eay thing to do but they can be moved without a lot of damage to surrounding grounds. Whether it is wise or not depends on where you are going to move it to.

Yes, it could be move, they do it all the time here in Florida.

But it wont be easy, cause the tree might have small roots on the sides, but in the middle has the strongest and logest root from any other tree, that's why they resist the storms and strong winds.

GOOD LUCK

It's in the ground I'm imagining? If it's better for the plant, i suppose you could move it, but if it's really 12 feet tall it sounds like it wouldn't be very easy to do... the roots wouldn't be the problem, just the sheer size. You could try, just be careful!

well you can move it , it will take time , you will first have to dig and wrap the roots in a cloth to protect it from frost etc , and to adjust from being dug up , then later when it has adjusted you can then move it ,usually takes six months in a wrap , then wait till spring to plant again , yes it's a hassle but if it's worth the moving then it would be a good idea . happy digging !!
