The screen can be replaced. Contact tech support for Compaq. If it will cost more than a new laptop, then you'll likely want to just replace it.

for a notebook i would suggest having him pay to get it repaired, It may be as simple as a new screen for it but you may infact need a new system, or would be cheaper. Either way take it to a shop and have them look at it
