There isn't anything wrong with it .. it's ignorant people that can't see the benefits.
I'm a straight woman who's had gay friends throughout her life. I see no reason why 2 people who love each other can't get married. Marriage is between a man and a woman, they say. Fine .. call it a civil partnership. Whatever. Just give them rights, too.
I would rather have grown up with 2 dads or 2 moms who loved each other, than to grow up with a mom and a dad who couldn't stand each other and fought all the time. It screws up your kids WORSE to have parents going at it all the time than to have 2 moms or 2 dads. It doesn't harm them .. if anything, it teaches them that not everyone is the same, and to accept differences.
There was a time that women couldn't vote .. now we can. There was a time when black people were slaves .. now they aren't. There was a time when black people could vote, but their vote wasn't worth that of a white person's vote ... now it's the same. With any luck, this too will pass, and gay people will be able to get 'married', or whatever the hell people want to call it.
I'm so sick of people trying to ban this. Fine, go ahead. Ban it for all I care. What are you going to accomplish? Do you think the gays are all going to run off to Canada? Think they'll go straight?! Think they'l stop 'poisoning' people?! What are people trying to accomplish with this?! All they are doing is ostracizing another part of society. We're getting really good at that nowadays. It disgusts me.
People are discriminating against Gays because there isn't anyone else to discriminate against right now. It's election platform time! Woo-hoo.
Furthermore, what the hell happened to the separation of Church and State? The people that are all gung-ho behind banning it are all stating their RELIGIOUS beliefs. I thought our founding fathers specifically made it a point to separate Church and State. The State shouldn't be doing what the Church wants them to, and vice versa. The founding fathers are probably flippin' in their graves.

There is no proof that gay marriage has a negative impact on society. Since it is something that is not harmful and is something that two consenting adults participate in(this is why we would not have to legalize people marrying dogs or something)
In the Old Testament, it does state briefly that gay sex is wrong but then again, unless someone supports everything Leviticus(which is the book that the passage about gay marriage is found) then they can not use the bible as justification. If they do then they must also logically support burning the sexually permissive daughters of priests (Leviticus 21:9), not allowing people to eat fat(Leviticus 7:23), requiring men’s beards to have square corners(Leviticus 19:27), slavery(Leviticus 25:44), or not letting women into a church until 42 days after they give birth(Leviticus12:4-5).
Also, if people say that we should not allow gay marriage because it goes against traditional marriage, then that is a logical fallacy(appeal to tradition) and therefore the argument really makes no sense.
There is no moral or logical justification for not allowing gay marriage.

I am glad you feel so strongly about this. I too agree that homosexuality should not be a crime or any person discriminated against. The problem with your question is that their is no such thing as an outside of religious belief when it comes to cultures response. America is a christian culture plain and simple and very few would deny this fact. We base our laws and morality on christian cultural prospective. Now that perspective can vary on individual or even within certain churches, but the culture itself that pervades is very old fashioned and not quick to change. After all there is still a sentiment in our culture to think of women as manipulative and seductive and men as gullible (watch TV ads sometimes with this in mind) Which dates back to the whole Adam and Eve thing. The best thing to end this kind of discrimination is for gay cultural icons to get married where they can and for people to raise awareness as quickly as they can. Unfortunately it will take some time. Me and my partner (and I am not saying if they are the same sex or not) are moving to massachusetts soon to start a life together. Good Question I hope you get some good responses.

Marriage is a religious institution, for the most part. There are some benefits that you can get from the government such as tax breaks and you can get health care and so forth, but by and large, people get married as an expression of the love they have for each other and as a way of staying connected together for life in the sight of God.
I don't think it's such a horrific idea to have two homosexuals wed (as such) as long as they call it a 'civil union' and not a marriage. In fact, I'd argue that two Agnostics or two Atheists should call their nuptuals a civil union since they don't believe in a God that they can exist in relationship with, either.

"wrong" isn't the right word. it's "different" than the norm, so those who define "norm" oppose gay marriage. outside of religious beliefs, it's like most things: everyone has an opinion. and right now, the popular opinion is that men should marry women and women should marry men. the reason that it's the popular opinion is that it is politically correct. we have an ultra-conservative government at present, and that's what they think-despite the fact that the vice-president's daughter is gay. but she would be the "exception" to the rule. i'm sure those who make the rules would argue that she isn't married to another woman. i would argue that in many states, "common law" marriages are acknowledge and must be severed by an actual legal divorce...but only so long as the couple consists of a man and a woman who have held themselves out to be a couple. why that doesn't apply to gay marriages is beyond me. write to the president.

I have 2 'separate critiques' about gay marriage. Religiously, i imagine that that is not a strong theory. Politically, i imagine the founding fathers promised people existence, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; American gay couples were promised the right to marry, in a way of speaking, and should be allowed to marry legally.

Its an abomination to GOD! Its 22 place in the Scripture! Start with Leviticus! And in the long run with all this sexual deviance; its gonna back fire on us just like in the 80's! We are going to see other diseases that develop from human freak behavior! I dont hate anyone; less long homosexuals! But look at what has happened with our children since the more accepting we have become with them. Also why do they have to flaunt their homosexuality! It private! And I see children now around DC whom look as young as 11 and 12 flaunting and flaming! Its ridiculous! We just cant do anything we want! There are universal rules and Amerikkka is just beginning to pay!

In your question you reveal part of the problem. If the God of the bible did create and order the universe, then there is no such thing as being "outside of" His order. You can't escape it. Nature and His Law are all around. Like it or not, if you jump off a tall building, His law of gravity will kick in. Gravity is just a fact of nature. Just bc we don't like something does not mean we are excused to disobey it. So, in the case of homosexuality, which according to the Bible is against God's family order (because of diseases, disorder, etc.) we can choose to try to live outside of the law of the Lord, but there are consequences for this. So some people choose to live with the consequences. They choose to willingly contract HIV-AIDS, and a host of other disgusting std's. God created male and female (look at body design; if you choose to believe one body fits into another to procreate, all BY PURE CHANCE OF EVOLUTIONARY LUCK you are choosing to disregard common sense) to show forth His own glory - to keep order in the species. By choosing to go against the law of nature, no matter how good, right, loving, or "normal" it seems, it is still sin. It still will lead to the disolving of the moral fabric in any society. To answer your question, you can't truly approach any social ill "outside of God" because God and his law is everywhere you look. It is wrong bc he said it is wrong. He designed the order of life for a reason, to keep harmony and balance. When we knowingly choose to rebel against that, that is why you have a society in chaos, spinning out of control. Of course, if you choose to want to defy gravity, or any thing else, go ahead and try. In the end, (and in the present) there will be consequences.

First, there is no argument outside of religion.
Second, if the ppl who oppose gay marriage would be honest with themselves and others, it is all about 2 things: 1. prejudices 2. they fear that making it legal is like saying they find it 'acceptable.'
People like this lack the ability to understand that just because you give equal rights to a group you do not agree with, does not mean that you are stating their behavior is acceptable to you.

I really don't care about this subject too much, it's far from being a priority such as certain folks like to believe but, someone made the good point of, why are we trying to stop homosexuals from having monogomous relationships
