It depends.

If you had a feature like autosave enabled from the program you were using (ex: MS Word), there is a good chance part if not all of your document was saved.

In some cases, when you enter the program (ex: MS Word) afterwards, the document you were working on may be available to work on thanks to the Auto-Recovery features)

However, each program works differently and may not have such precautions in place.

An ounce of prevention...
Consider purchasing a UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) to connect to your PC. This way, your PC will remain up after a power outage, giving you tiem to save and shut down your computer properly. The cost of a UPS has dropped significantly these days. Be sure to look around.

you'd have had it back by now it your computer had a failsafe that recovered docs that had been open when it shut down or an autosave function but if you didn't get it back automatically you are out of luck
