What do Africans think about the influence of western powers on their governance and economic situation?

I have a cousin who has been living in Africa. She tells me that some blame western countries for poverty, but the more informed recognize that if their own governments were not corrupt, much more aid would be flowing from western democracies to the people that really need it.

I would have to say that they think they are the puppets for profiteering Western companies. The ones that test AIDS drugs over there to see if they work, so some end up with a false sense of being cured. Oil companies like Shell basically control the oil producing nations of Africa and place dictators in charge who give nothing to the people but spend big bucks on palaces for the government.

They know that all goes well when they toe their line. Otherwise economic war will be unleashed. Transfer of technology would be stopped. Africa is yet to see minimum requirements of food met fullly.

What shows me is that their own governments are corrupted.
Otherwise, they would be a civil and thriving society.
There is just so much we can do to help before we get suck dry
as well. Sometimes we need to make tough choices.

i think they are too busy staying alive to wonder about all this ethereal stuff to them...they just hope they will eat today...and survive the warlords and genocide that is happening

They are in so much need of assistance, I am sure that They are very grateful for any help, from anywhere. They are in desperate need of clean water, medical supplies, especially to help with HIV and Aids, food, shelter, and help with education.

You'd hope they LIKED it, because Africa's so sick with AIDS, and Poverty! Have you EVER been to Haiti? I bet that IT's worst than ANY country in AFRICA!!
