No. They killed many American muslims on 9/11. They continue to prove they do not care about non-extremist muslims by killing them every day in Iraq without an after thought.
In fact, if we had a black muslim president I dare say they would hate him more than the current and past administrations for 'selling out' Islam.

If he/she changes the political, social and economic attitude towards the region, and towards the rest of the world for the matter of fact, there may be a change in perception. If that person continues to represent entrenched interests governing this country, than nothing really would change.
And, should I add that it is the government of our country that assisted in the creation of modern islamic fundamentalism by overthrowing the PM Mossadeq, and extending support to the corrupt/tycoonic regime of Reza Pahlavi.
Therefore, it is our attitude that needs to be changed!
