It is bloomin nerve racking each (NOT EVERY) time when the game comes down to the shoot out - aka called penalty kicks, but really each team gets the same number of kicks, so better called the 'shoot out'. Why? At this level, the World Cup, the top teams in the tournament are so highly skilled, both offence and defence, so quite often they remain tied, whether it is 1-1 or 0-0... etc...

the shoot out is a place where NO TEAM wants to end up and surely not loose. For example, IF Italy did not get those points in the game against Germany - and they went to a shoot out, Germany were the favourites to win (in the shoot out) - both teams have great goal keepers, but the German strikers are pretty strong...

If you all think that it is frustrating all the 'bllimin' time, think about the guys out there sweating their butts off for over two hours!! Then it comes down to 5 shots!? Yes, they know that, and I personally think that these players and their fans DO NOT WANT THE DARN SHOOT OUT/PENALTY SHOTS... they want to win the game in the regular 90 minutes. Simply put.

not every "blimin'" time. Italy didn't win over Germany on penalties. Did you just tune it all out when England lost?

It sucks to lose in penalties!! It is definitely not a true indication of the capacity of a team! Hats off to England for playing as well as they did being 1 man down. I feel for you...the Italian team has been there many times (ie. 1994 finals and 1998 quarters...ugh)

Is "blimin" a curse word? That's awesome!!

I assume you mean the England match? It's because they played rubbish for 90+30 minutes. If they wanted to win, why not score a goal in normal time?

Because the England squad have too much rich living and not enough training.
Football was better when it was a game for the working classes and not a business.

penalties happen to make the game tensifing, xesiting, curious, and testify a lot of patient in the players

because all teams are not good enough to score not only in the 90 min but 30 minutes also, they should play to the end , thats what they get paid for is'nt it?

It means both teams played good and both deserve to win but unfortunatlly only one can go to the next game.
