Names like Shanequa and LaTraneeka (I know people with both these names!), are the African American attempt to find names for our children that are "special" and not so American sounding, but yet not so African sounding either. Even though these names are now known as "ghetto", they have fast become a part of African American culture. Sometimes me and my family will sit around and try to think of the most "ghetto" name we can come up with--its sort of a game to us...lol...I have a cousin named Bashiba and a neighbor named Sha'twaka. Hows that for ghetto names?!!!! lol...

First of all, that is extremely ignorant on your part to even label a name, "a ghetto name". Do you have any idea where the name(s) come from? Have you ever thought about cultural differences? Please don't tell me you approve of rich people naming their children after fruits?
Its extremely tacky on your part to even ask a question like that. if you don't like a name, get over it - don't label it ghetto.
