It should be fine as long as you are in a well ventilated room. It's better to have someone else do it for you, but I painted my nursery when I pregnant, and everything was fine. Just take frequent breaks away from the fumes, or you can buy that new paint they have out that has a lower fume content. Talk to the store you get the paint at to see what they have.

RE:
Is it safe to paint a room when pregnant (using latex paint)?
Reports about this are always conflicting but I was curious if it was ok to paint a room when pregnant- using latex only paints? I'm just thinking ahead to when we do the nursery.

I painted the nursery (including primer and two coats of latex paint) when I was about 8 months pregnant, and my son is fine. I bought a special mask to keep out paint fumes from The Home Depot, and I smelled nothing. I also kept the window open to air the room out (even though it was January in Michigan, lol). Be careful if you have to step on a ladder or step stool...many women lose their center of gravity when they're pregnant, and are prone to be wobbly and fall a lot.

Hi, it's important to realize that latex paint is LESS harmful than oil based paint. Note LESS harmful. Latex paint still contains solvents, resins(acrylics, vinyls, epoxies), anti foaming agents etc.. Your main concern being pregnant would be to avoid contact with the solvents and plastisizers expecially in their liquid suspension form i.e. when your applying them. Advice? Ventilate to the extreme, consider wearing a mask to prevent inhaling misted particles(if you are using a roller). Wear gloves. Consider hiring someone to do the job. Your pregnant. Play the card girl. "All I want is for the nursery room to be painted..." P.S. Paint it now and let the room gas off for at least a month before baby comes. Good luck!

I did it when I was 5 months along with my oldest. We used latex paint (which has less fumes) and made sure the windows were open. My son had no problems at birth, except that he was almost 12 lbs!!!!
I would say do it, have fun with it. My only advice would be to avoid ladders, let someone else do the high parts. Try not to raise your arms over your head too much.

Of course, when you are in doubt, have someone else do it. But if there isn't anyone, use a painting mask and have the room well ventilated. I painted part of our room when I was 7 months pg & and so far everything is a ok.

There are many conflicting reports on whether it is safe to paint during pregnancy. Although many doctors say it's ok, my doctor warned against it, saying if you don't know for sure don't do it.
I had a difficult design in mind, and wanted to do it all myself. (rag rolled swirl in 4 complementary colors and a solid colored bottom below the chair rail.)
After thinking it over, I chose to have family help out, while I supervised. Since there was only one window in the baby's room, even using a fan didn't seem to be enough venilation for me. I showed them how it the design should be done on a demo board outside, then let them have at it. I'd go in every now and then with a paint mask to check the status, but they'd shoe me out saying I didn't need to be breathing it all in. So I designated myself as cook and fixed lunch for everyone.
They had a ball, laughing and joking the entire time - "look at this swirl, mine will be the first she sees, no mine...". Everyone seemed to be bonding, (his family & mine) wondering what the baby would look like, etc.
After it was over, it turned out beautiful. I even took pictures, which I placed in my daughter's scapbook. So now, instead of saying "Mommy painted your room all by herself", I get to say, "Look at all the people who loved you so much even before you were born."
I'm glad with the decision I made. Just because everybody and their mama's sister's cousin painted while they were pregnant and had no bad results, there's still always that chance that it could happen to you. I felt that I didn't need to take that chance with my baby.
Good luck and congratulations!

It might be OK but i would ask the doctor just to be on the safe side. You wouldn't want to do any harm to your baby and paint is paint just check with the doc first. And you know that is what you have the man for, relax and watch TV you have a hard long drawn out process in front of you put the brush in his hand

I think it's fine but you need to buy a ventilated painters mask but I really think it's OK just leave some windows open and use a fan and mask
Enjoy decorating the room
