Hi,
The truth is, that contentment is a state of mind. If you link your state of contentment to things and events outside yourself, you will never have it. I do not know if it is possible, or healthy to be contented all the time. That would indicate a severe lack of empathy with those around you. I have found that for me, it is best to go ahead and share the pain of those around you when they feel it, while you are in their presence. When you are no longer around them, go ahead and relocate that self constructed place within you, where you feel your contentment. Remember, that it cannot be based on any outside circumstance. It is entirely possible to use your imagination to create genuine feelings of happiness and peace within yourself. After a while, it can become sort of a habit, and you will find yourself feeling good most of the time, for no reason whatsoever. This will drive people crazy, and they will ask "what are you so happy about?"
Just tell them what I do. I have made happiness a choice, and nobody can take that from me.

You will hear many answers to this question, many from hypocrites. Though the question seems simple enough, it carries with it great weight. To live life "contented." Aye, there's the rub. To find contentment, you must find your center, and be at one with all things. There are few who have found this path, they have all been the same man, the Dalai Lama. He may be the one personage on this world that can answer that question, for he and he alone has reached that lofty plateau.

Find someone with whom you can share the journey. Someone who gets you. Someone who is on the same page with you. Someone who can tell what you're thinking and sometimes knows what you're going to say before you say it.
If you find that person (I'd argue that they're your "soulmate") then you can live a life contented.

Embrace who you are and stay true to yourself. Find joy in the simplest of things. Share your life with others. Always remember that the world does not revolve around you. Learn humility. Have faith (doesn't have to be in God, but you need to have faith in something). Get a good education. Be accepting of others. Listen twice as much as you talk.

Be the best "you" that you can be, and do unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Life is what we make of it...choose to make yours one that you'll be happy looking back on.
