The same thing happened to me. I was terrified to tell anyone for fear that they'd 'find' a reason to let me go and I'd loose my insurance. I was still fairly new to the job and still in training so to speak. I was afraid they'd think it was easier to hire someone else who wouldn't be on maternity leave in a few months, than to keep me. Although it is illegal to fire someone for pregnancy, there are so many easy ways around that.
But, then I figured they'll find out sooner or later, so I'd better bite the bullet and let them know. I met with my boss privately and told her my situation. She was shocked and I saw the nervous look on her face. I assured her, I wouldn't let my pregnancy interfer with my job, other than the scheduled doctor's appointments, and that I would continue to be professional to the end. I offered to train the replacement they'd have to get while I was out, and even offered to take calls and visits at home after the baby was born to help out if needed.
She discussed it with the owners and upper management, and they decided to get a temp in as soon as possible so they could begin learning my job. Although I didn't hold up my end of the bargin, (morning sickness throughout), they ended up being really supportive about it all, which surprised me as they didn't look like very nice people to begin with. Even gave me a baby shower. Who knows - your employer may surprise you as well.
Best of luck to you and Congratulations!

This same situation happened to me, i found out i was pregnant the day of orientation and i was so scared they were going to fire me, but i was very honest with them and came up and told my boss that i just found out that i was pregnant and i really need this job, i said i will understand if you don't want me to work anymore but i really didn't know till today and they were like it's fine i was almost in tears. Many of women don't find out they are pregnant till they are at least 6 weeks or
more and some when still have a period so they don't know till much long down they road. Just be honest with them and everything will work out. Good luck and congrats to the little one!

Take time to set up a meeting with your boss to discuss this issue. You do not have a fatal condition! You are having a baby! You cannot be discriminated against for being pregnant. That would be illegal. President Bush has signed into law maternity leave for mothers, I believe fathers also for a period of time. If you are able to do your job there should be no problem. Alot of women work right up until they go into labor. My physical therapist is due in a week and still at work!!!! Good Luck! You cannot be fired for pregnancy. They will be setting themselves up for a lawsuit if they do.

I had to switch jobs early in my pregnancy due to our relocation. I went to the interview knowing i was pregnant, however did not bring that up until i was offered the position (i didnt want that to be a deciding factor in my hire, as i feel it should be b ased off of what i can offer and such). Upon hire, i simply told the lady who interviewed me that i am pregnant. My due date is such and such. I plan to work up until i deliver and will give my 100% the entire time. It was a job in daycare. And i worked with children ages 6 weeks to 18 months. So it was constant picking up and putting down of children all day, and i did all of that right up until the day before i went into labor.
Basically, what i'm telling you is go to your boss with a plan of action. Providing you have a normal healthy pregnancy, provide info on when you plan on starting your maternity leave, how long you plan on being out after wards (or even if you plan to return as some ppl are lucky enough to be SAHM's). They'll respect you more for going in with a plan. And since they know the father they may be extra excited.
Best of luck, keep your head up and be ULTRA proud of your pregnancy.

The best thing would be to tell your immediate supervisor, alone, with no one else there. They don't need to know who the father is, or anything of that nature. Sometimes employers can be a little weird about pregnancy, but they can't fire you for that. I would tell them that you just found out and didn't know when you took the job. Let them know that you plan on working up until the baby is born or until your doctor tells you that you have to stop.

i would just tell your manager in case that you have to do something that could be harmful to you or your babys health...it is best to wait to tell them after the first trimester anyway so just tell your boss that you need to have a talk and get all of your paperwork that you might need for maternity leave and you dont have to tell the other people if you dont want to... if they find out and ask you if your pregnant then tell them yes..they might buy you stuff. Also try waiting until after the baby to get married..i got married when i was 4 months and i had very bad nausea and had to pee every 5 mins

Talk to your employer and say. I just found out that I am pregnant. I had no idea and I did not know I was when I started here. I really enjoy working here and only intend on taking of the minimum amount of time when the baby comes. If they fire you, you can sue them.

so i wish you all the luck and wish me the same. so i guess your advice from me would be just do it fast and smile and take it knowing that they are not you and it will all blow over soon and ppl will start getting use to the idea.

I'd look into what their policies are on pregnancy. Without being there a year, you may not be entitled to maternity leave.
However, you do need to tell them now.
Ask to speak to your boss privately, and let him know you are pregnant. I didn't tell my boss until I was four months. It's common to wait until the end of the first trimester.
I doubt they'd hold it against you.
It's better to do it now so you and they can plan for your absence.

Just come straight out and tell them. They are not obligated to have anything negative to say. That's your life and not theirs. So why not come on out and just tell them. All they can do is be happy for you. If you are already 5 months, then someone may have already noticed and just waiting for you to tell everyone. Believe me, if there are older people working there with you, they know!
