I hate it. If you want to be a politician, then be a politician. If you want to be an actress, then be an actress. It doesn't matter if they're educated or not. Focus on one thing and do it well.

I think it's a lot better than using fame as a platform to, say, shill products. Although I can understand some people tiring of those celebrities, I have to think that if I were in that situation and I *didn't* use my fame to promote something I believed in, that I would feel guilty about it.
I think education and experience benefit everyone's credibility, not just celebrities.

I am personally very tired of it. That is not to say they don't have the "right" to say anything they wish, however I choose not to buy Dixie Chicks Cd's because they are so uninformed and rude to the people that pay to see them. Get a clue - when we come to see you perform that is it - just sing!
Bruce, you were the boss a long time ago, now you are just another old rocker trying to hang on. What in the heck have you done to help the country other than being born in the USA. Take a hint from Nugent and go hunt some food.
Angelina - we come to your movies to look at your body, not for your talent -you home wrecker. Stop adopting kids in Africa and go help the Dave Thomas Foundation find homes for kids in America.
This country gives the opportunity to all of these people and more to succeed. It always amazes me that they disrespect it so much. The system we live under is not perfect, but it is the most efficient system of life in the world. Every system has difficulties, but this is the system of government and commerce that comes the closest to ideal for all people.
Education matters not at all, look at all of the educated people that do nothing other than think about the ideal society and forget what it takes to live in real society. Academics are the only people that have to produce nothing of value in the world (other than bureaucrats). Experience only matters if you profit from it. We bring our own personal baggage to every experience. Katrina is either a terrible disaster or a tremendous opportunity for rebirth; it all depends on how you approach it.

I don't think celebrities should be considered authorities in politics or in any social issues. Their jobs are purely for entertainment and don't qualify them to be any more knowledgeable than the average Joe on the street. I have always wondered why people put them up on a pedestal when their gifting is to be pretenders and memorize lines. However, on the flip side of that if celebrities can get people to help feed the hungry then I think it's a good idea.

It's pretentious and usually hypocritical. So many champagne socialists talking about human rights and living in gated communities.
