I am a 21 yr. old virgin, and I have a doc's appointment in 2 weeks, and they mentioned something about giving me a pap smear. Do I really need one? I've had one before, when I was 17, because my doc was putting me on the patch for Dysmenorrhea (painful cramps along with other symtpoms). What should I do?

Definatly get one especially since you;ve had one in the past. It's good to get checked up every year to watch for cervical cancer. Also OB/GYNs recommend pap smears 1)after beginning sexual activity or 2)after you turn 21. so you;re right on time

Yes, I would absolutely recommend it. Even though its no fun. You could have all normal pap smears but then start to have cell changes, it is best to just get a once a year check and be safe. When you catch it early you can cure more easily. Hope you never have any problems but its better to err on the side of caution.

ABOLUTELY you still need a pap smear. This simple test can determine if you have cervical cancer, which can kill you if not treated early and aggressively. There are NO symptoms, so the ONLY way you can tell if you have it, is by this test. It does NOT matter if you have sex or not-- you can still get cervical cancer!

A Pap smear is done to detect any cells which might be cancerous. You don't have to be sexually active to get cervical cancer. It might be uncomfortable but it's worth knowing that you're healthy.

Yes, you do.....the recommendations are 3 years after you become sexually active, or 21, whichever comes first. Its is then recommended at least yearly after that. Its a very important test to have done! Take care and stay safe!

Definitely! Paps are done to detect abnormal cells that can indicate HPV, which can later lead to cervical cancer. Paps are a MUST!!

Yesssss you should have one at least once a year. they help find cancers and infections caused from the reproductive system. They can prevent longterm problems that may occure due to an infection or disease that you may have never noticed symptoms from.
