No, look under the Atlantic Ocean, there are mountains that are over 6 miles high. Even though we can't see them, they are there. Look on a World Atlas, you can see the long mountain ranges in the Atlantic. But if you were to say the Highest Mountain on land, it would be Mount Everest in Nepal, which is in Asia. It is around 29035 feet high on its tallest peak.Although many people say Mauna Kea in Hawaii is the tallest mountain in the world because from base to peak its about 32,000 feet high. So you can say Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain ever recorded on planet Earth. But it is proven that there are taller mountains underwater on planet Earth.

Mt Everest is considered the world's tallest mountain because it reaches further into the atmosphere than any other. Technically, however, the tallest mountain in the world is really the mountain that forms the main island of Hawaii. It is more than 30,000 ft. high in comparison to Mt. Everest's 29,000.

Mt. Everest is, of course, the highest point above sea level. But, in some ways, it is not the tallest mountain. Several undersea mountains are apparently taller, from base to peak. Mauna Kea, on the island of Hawaii, is the tallest mountain in the world, from base to peak (about 32,000 feet), its base being some 19,000 feet under water.
