When do you feel a person is actually experiencing poverty?

Suppose you knew someone that had just reached the top edge of the poverty level in their life, what would their life be like?

a feel a person actually experiences poverty when their financial means are either not nearly enough or are non existant. when your nieghbourhood doesn't seem so bright and colorful as the other nighbourhoods, your neighbourhood consists of graffiti, odd misplaced could be stolen vehichles, boarded houses. when you know that you have a couple dollars left to your name and a couple children to feed and it is not nearly enough to last the nest week you have to go through. when your spirit is broken and has succumb to the numbness of drugs and alcohol. money desn't buy happiness but it can relieve stress. the stress of not knowing, not knowing when your next meal is, not knowing if your gonna have heat for children in the coldest months, not knowing if your going to be able to keep the roof over your head. not all of this is because of being iresponsable they are numerous factors that play into effect. some people lose their jobs and it's hard to find another one working at mcdonalds of course is a job but when you have a family a min, wage job helps but can't cut it sacrafices need to be made each payday and the most important financial needs are always being handled first. (meaning we might not have heat but at least we have a roof over our heads) some people find the strentgh to make it out, to break the cycle, to change their finacial status and that's is awesome cause there has to be inspiration. but some break to it and feel they can't ever get the life they dream. and some are happy being poor as they are rich in their heart and soul. if there was a chance for most to reach the top of the poverty level what a world of difference that would make.

There are a few answers to this question. Here are a couple -
1. When some dumbass celebrity tells them they are in poverty. (Really? I'm in poverty? Hell, we've been living this way for 2000 years.)
2. When they wake up one morning and say, "You know, I'm really feeling impoverished today. The guy down the block bought that big Cadillac last week and I'm taking the bus. I think I'm going to spend the rest of my day lying here on the sofa and thinking about how little I have."

Poverty is more than a number on some government report - it's a state of mind.

While scholars may define poverty in terms of dollars, I think poverty involves many other parameters. If you are not able to clothe, feed, provide shelter, secure medical care, or educate your children, then you are at high risk of being considered a victim of poverty. I know many people that live well below the official poverty level and yet, you'd never consider them poor.

I have never felt that I was in poverty but, I too believe that poverty is a state of mind. I believe that someone can come out of poverty just by getting help or, my fav. getting a job or try to earn money.I think poverty is when you can't buy food, can't pay bills, have no job, and are going homeless. Poverty is something that goes on a lot.You might want to help that person. but REMEMBER: Give someone a fish they'll eat for a day, teach someone to fish, and they'll eat for a lifetime.

Poverty begins when we as humans forget about how we were fed or how we were blessed.

I think that because we hear about poverty across the continent we don't think that it could be use, our children, our grand children.

How can we end it. Use some of our free land to grow crops for distribution to the world. Our world. We can make it happen. We have wht it takes.

Poverty begins when you have no disposable income, when every cent you have must be spent on survival.

When a family was leaving poverty they would suddenly have money that could be used to purchase better quality necessities, leisure, or savings for the future.

It's like a scale. If you tip one side lower, the other side will rise. As someone gets richer, another person gets poorer.
You begin to feel poverty when it haunts you when you sleep, mocks you when you relax, and tortures you as you live.
A person in poverty would feel a restraint on them. They want to leave for somewhere, but they feel the shackles of poverty binding them to the wall, imobilizing them and constricting their will to live.

Poverty begins and ends with hunger. When a person is unable to eat for days and weeks on end, their body cannot function.
