Can anyone tell me where to find this story?

I read it when I was probably in about the 1st or 2nd grade. I know it was called something along the lines of the Green Ribbon and it was about a girl with a green ribbon she wore around her neck, constantly through the story this boy asks her why and then they get married and what not and she gets sick and finally says he can pull it off and her head falls off. I know its odd but I've been looking for this story for YEARS. Any one know?

It's an old ghost story. I don't know if it is in a story book by itself, but it is a classic by-the-fire tale.

I just had the same problem looking for a book I remembered from elementary school. I did some searches on Amazon and found it! Do some searches for green ribbon and I bet it'll pop up. And they have a lot of users that sell their used / old books, so hopefully you'll be able to get a copy of it. Good luck!

The story, to the best of my knowledge, is actually an old folktale. There may be an original author, but she or he has been lost as the story has gone through myriad tellings and retellings.

It's in a book called In a Dark, Dark Room, and Other Scary Stories by Alvin Schwartz. Very popular with my little horror-fans, "The Green Ribbon" is always the one that scares them the most!

I remember the book also. It was called "The Green Ribbon". I don't remember the author, but a book store might be able to help you.
