Actually, your example of "have been made" is not completely accurate.

The beds were made (Past tense)
The beds are made (Present tense)
The beds will not make themselves! (Future tense)

The beds have been ----- can be replaced with
The beds were---

Just as a side bar: When AOL came out with their "I've Got Mail" slogan, did anyone else cringe with the use of such incorrect grammar?

I have got mail --- mixes present tense and past tense and is incorrect.

I have mail
You have mail -----they're both present tense.

You got mail
I got mail ----- are both past tense.

And these are our corporate marketing geniuses.

The beds have been made. or
The beds have been made up.

"up" is a preposition which technically shouldn't be used to end a sentence, but "made up" is a commonly-used, easily-understood expression in reference to a bed.
