The pap hurt because right now your cevix is very sensitive, and inflammed due to pregnancy. I don't know why he did one this late in pregnancy, it should have been done on your first appointment. Are you sure it was a pap and that he wasn't checking to see how far dialated you are? That is uncomfortable to have done and can hurt.

There will be pain with childbirth, no one can avoid that part of the birth experience, but drugs will help. If you are that worried, talk to your doctor at your next appointment, or call labor and delivery at your hospital and find out how long you have to wait until you get the epidural. Some hospitals make you wait until you are so far dialated. My hospital started both of mine as soon as I got there. You can request, and have your doctor request that an epidural be given as soon as labor starts, or as soon as you get the hospital.

An epidural hurts a little to get it in place, but it's much better then the contractions. You don't really feel pressure until it is almost time for the baby to be born. Then you will feel it whether you have the epidural or not, it just isn't that uncomfortable with the epidural. Some women don't even feel the pressure at all with an epidural. I didn't with either of mine, and don't worry, the nurse will tell you when it's time to push if you can't feel anything. Let me just say that it is so much better to have an epidural! Don't try to be a hero and stick it out, the drugs are there for a reason. Sounds like you are one that would really appreciate pain relief. :)

Not sure why your doctor is doing a pap smear this late in the pregnancy. Yes, there is going to be pressure and pain, but there are medications and anethesia that can be used. I suggest finding out about these and talking to your doctor NOW. I learned the hard way that it must be pre-arranged. Of course, that was with my 3rd child and I had done natural twice and thought I would take the easy way. Good thing I didn't because the baby was turned wrong with the cord around his neck and had I not been able to feel and control the pushing, disaster could have occurred. However, I also discovered that one that precious bundle was placed in my arms, any pain was forgotten. Deep breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth and something to squeeze really hard, I call pain transference, helps through the contractions, especially if it's dad's hand so he can feel what you are suffering...LOL!!!! best of luck.

Honey, honey, honey..... a pap smear is a mear walk in the park compared to child birth. If you can't handle the pain from a pap smear then, I'm sorry, child birth is not the answer for you. Ask for lots of pain meds and don't forget the epidural. Good Luck.

I am surprised that you were even given a pap smear that far into your pregnancy! Glad you screamed, those doctors need to know when something hurts, I have always found procedure to hurt ....as for childbirth you may consider a C-section or get your self into top notch shape with walking and exercise it makes the birth much easier

I had the epidural, felt zero pain. I didn't even feel the epidural going in. I highly suggest this for anyone that has a low tollerence for pain. The first thing I sai after I pushe him out was, "I could do that again." And I am a big baby when it comes to pain.

Giving birth is always painful, however an epidural will ease most of the pain. You will still feel the pressure, but not much else. Amniotic fluid prevents dryness during birth.

No, not if you opt for pain killers. If you decline pain killers, it still won't be bad because you will forget once your bundle of joy is laying in your arms!! There's no other feeling like it. Knowing that you brought someone else into the world! Congratulations!

I don't think it will be as bad as you think it will but every woman is different. I think that your hoohoo is so sore right now because you have lots of pressure down there due to the baby pressing on it when you stand up.

well if you were unconfortable for that you probally need to ask for meds once you get into the hospital...and an epidural does hurt expecally if your getting it put in while a contraction is comming on.
