If you are studying web design. You need to focus on the future and not the past. Visit AListApart.com for the latest in standards-based web dev. If you look too closely at the out-dated table-based designs, you will be painting yourself in a corner.
I've gone from a small non-profit organization to working for one of the largest in the world after ditching tables two years ago. It's still a new industry and we need more programmers.
