I've worked for a family friend for the last 6 years now. I am a bookkeeper and started working in their home, long story short now we are a professional company with an office and everything.

About 3 years ago my mother joined me in working at the office. I live with my boyfriend in a apartment.

My boss has had money problems and I haven't been paid personally in 3 weeks. My mother paid me for the 3 weeks before that, and she is currently holding those checks as well. Last week my boss was able to pay her half of what he owes.

In total between my mother and I he owes us a months work, so about $3,000. I personally have not gotten any income in a month. I was being paid under the table, and switched my last months checks (which are held) to normal payroll.

He says he can pay us but I have my doubts. BUT he was able to pay my mother 1/2 of what he owes. I won't accept a check until she receives all the money from the checks she has of mine.

Should I quit or wait??

He's apparently getting you to work on a promise. That will not pay for many groceries. Quit and go to worrk for someone reputable.

Tell him you are getting a lawyer and have proof of work that has been done. Give him a deadline in like 2 weeks to give you what he owes and as soon as he does hit the road. What an awful boss.

Find a better job, then quit. You can't wait for other people to do the right thing when your livelyhood are at stake. You have to do what is best for you. Especially if you have kids.

You have more experience now, so you could probably make more money somewhere else as well.

you need to cut your losses now, the more you wait on the
"check(s) ," the more you are putting yourself in a financial hole. If your boss could pay i think he would have. Don't wait until the company goes under, get out now!!!

Something must be wrong. You are not being informed of a problem. Sometimes not telling somebody something is the same as a lie. I would not work for a liar who does not pay me.
Quit or starve.

Yikes! If you can hold out, you should try until you get paid. But, if you're in desperate need of the money you should probably quit and find another job. Good luck.

DO NOT WAIT - quit now and find a stable job. Your livelihood depends on it. Family friends are taking advantage, and getting you to give them free labor. I have been in this situation. Get out of it now, while you can still be friends with them.

i think you should wait.(don't wait to long because your company might bomb.) because if you quit now all that work could've gone to nothing and he might have the money ready.but if you are tired of waiting and need the money just leave and quit to find a better job that you are positive it will pay every paycheck.

You should tell him that you can no longer work for him until he pays you IN FULL for what you are owed.
