I swear that the stress is killing me...

2006-07-07 04:48:59 · 14 answers · asked by SBean_29 3 in Business & Finance Careers & Employment

Don't get me wrong - I love the job - I hate the stress. I've become accustomed to living on what I make so I feel hopeless to leave what I do for less stress. It sucks.

Since you where so nice to give me a detailed HONEST answer, I figured I'd help you out here too.

It's a toss up, if you are willing to put in the hours of stress now, you will be reaping the rewards later in life. I figure we all have a certian amount of stress that we are going to deal with in our lives and if we kill ourselves early in life, we will be able to enjoy it later in the form of retirement.

I don't know how business saavy you are, but being an offsite owner of a company requires very little stress, however you are going to need capital for investment. The return can be huge but the risk is huge as well.

Basically, work your a** off right now, take 35-40% of your income and PAY YOURSELF. A portion of every dollar you make is yours to keep. Put it in a savings account and start looking into different forms of investments. Spend 3-4 years studying all different investment engines and trust me, once you get some money in the bank, the investments will find you.

Stress comes in many forms -- both good and bad. You learn and grow as a person when under stress. Stress is a very important part of life and one that you should be thankful is present. (Naturally, I'm referring mostly to the "good" stress: getting a promotion, getting married, graduating, buying a car, etc.. Still, things can be learned from "bad" stress, too: loss of a loved one can teach empathy, a "ton of work to do" can teach time management, etc..)

As you move up the corporate ladder, more responsibility is shifted your way, and you are compensated by increased salary. The TYPE of stress that involves, however, is different for each person. For example: becoming the White House Spokesperson would be something that an extroverted person could find exhilirating. Give that same job to an introvert and it becomes their worst nightmare. (Present circumstances notwithstanding.) ;)

So the key becomes finding a job that you are comfortable with and one that "stresses" you in the "right"/"good" way. Your personality and gifts suit you more to some jobs than others. Just because you love something, doesn't mean you won't ever have ANY stress -- nor does it mean you have to work for scraps. You just have to find the job that has the right balance of "good" stress and good salary. It _is_ possible to do both! :)

This will probably give you a good laugh to say the least.

I don't agree that to make good money you have to deal with a lot of stress.
My ole man makes the money and I deal with the stress of the children ( In fact I have a little one right now who is not happy with my decision and he is hanging on my leg lol )
On the other hand Companies feel that if you are getting paid this much, they expect this much out of you for their money.
lol
good luck
Maybe you need to find another job/career.

Hi

Stress is a relative thing. Try time management skills. Essentially you have to bite the juiciest and leave the rest. Start the day saying today i wont do x y and z becasue am just doing B withi is the juicies bit of the job an di really like to do and DO IT WELL.

It works

If a job wasn't a lot of stress, everyone would want to do it, then you can get away with paying them less money. If a job is that stressful, you have to pay a lot to get people to do it.

I hear you. Unless you were born into money or it's just handed to you, stress is a way of life. I have noticed as well the better money I make the more stress I have to deal with, and the more people seem to be such jerks! Such is life I suppose.

Becuase you are in a stressful job. I love my job and I have virtually no stress. Find something you love even if it's less money.

Because the higher up you go, the more responsibilty you have. Your employer sees that you can handle it, so you get even more responsibilty...along with more time constraints as in: "Can I have this on Monday morning?". If a person has good time management, then the stresses can be minimized.....but sadly, not eliminated....but, you gotta admit...the money is good!!

The stress factor is why the job is higher paying.
