With the advent of Ken Lay's death, one wonders if we can ever get a handle on corporate greed and corruption. Is this possible? What do you think should be done about the fact that the average CEO makes 500 times the average line workers salary? Is that ethical?

Don't work for or do business with businesses that overpay their CEOs. Not easy, is it! The best you can do is get involved and work your way onto a board position which has a say in CEO pay. But you'll find that getting a good CEO is like getting a good Left Handed Pitcher in the MLB; not many options.
PS I thought the ratio was 262:1; still sickening.

Well, those having outstanding abilities will always have the chance to earn extreme amounts, no matter if they are managers or sportsmen or what ever.

A wrong decision of the CEO or the board can cost a company billions of dollars.

Of course you can say, that nobody's time can be 500 times as much worth as somebody else's - but the situation today is the reality. Ethical is, that we all know about.

People are compensated by how much they bring to the table. A person who shows up every day and performs data entry or by welding on a door hinge does not generate any income. They just keep a mechanism that is already in motion moving. You are worth what it costs to replace you in today's marketplace. The difference between people who are CEO's etc. and a line worker is that they worked harder in school, at work and sold themselves and their skills better into the market place. Contrary to popular belief, their are pepole out there who are better than we are. In America you are what you make of yourself!
