OK...first of all, have you ever acted on a fantasy? Usually, if you do, they aren't as titillating in real life as they are in your mind. And if we acted on every thought, who would NOT be in jail? Come, on Dude...get real.

It's because some are impossible and others are just inappropriate. We humans are capable of having fantasies and ideas, that cannot (or cannot yet) be put into action (such as traveling in a spaceship as on a sci-fi show).
Other thoughts or fantasies, are just inappropriate (such as having sex with all your favorite celebrities, married or not), or perhaps too dangerous (climbing mt. everest if you've never climbed anything other than some stairs). They are a way for us to experiences feelings or emotions, without the repercussions that may occur if we took those things "live".

Because of evolution. We as humans evolve throughout time. Evidence suggests that there was a time in our history that humans did act and react to every thought and fancy. As social restrictions draw tight on each one of us we are left to decide what we can and can't act upon based on if it is socially acceptable or not.

Unfortunately SOME humans, (or animals, depending on your outlook) Do act on every emotion and fantasy they have. THEY ARE NOW DEAD OR IN PRISON! If YOU acted on every impulse YOU would be the same. (They are called Psychopaths, or CRAZYS or WEIRDOS, or) well you get the picture. as the others have told you we are supposed to be above the animals!

Without fear of religion there would be no fear of consequence. That's why there are prisions and divorce, at the time of the act there was no care for the outcome. But boy do they find it quick when it is beneficial and they find themselves in trouble.

it's a good thing we don't and have some kind of concious. could you imagine, this world would be even more chaotic then it already is. and everyone would probabley have AIDS. think about buddy.
