I agree, we should NOT. They can not keep a relationship together, they have difficulties helping them selves (mentally). They are the WORST role models for anyone. There are a few celebs that have been able to keep themselves grounded, but unfortunately most talk from 2 sides of their mouths.

First we need to define "celebrity".
If you are talking about those people in Hollywood who perform and exhibit themselves on tape, film, and disks for money, I think we should determine if they have any other skill, knowledge or experience that would make their statements important.
If all they can offer is an ability to perform, then we should judge their statements as having the same value as the personal opinion of any other American.
A guy who strums a guitar and yells obscenities into a microphone while making obscene gestures is a person who belongs in the gutter. What is there about such a person that qualifies him ( or her ) to tell us who we shoulld help? If we have sunk that low then maybe we are the ones who need help.

one, you shouldn't let anyone influence your thinking when you feel that they are lacking on information, whether it is a celebrity, politician, parental figure, pastor, or friend. It should be noted, however, that celebrities are people just like you and I, and besides performing their selective craft, many are educated and have views on economic, political, and social issues that are equally as relevant as ones that you and I might come up with. To limit someone speaking their mind on an issue, whatever their occupation, is to dehuminize them in the long run, and nothing good can come out of that.

We should not allow it but unfortunately, people have been voyeurs for so long in the lives of celebrities and have given celebrities a much greater sense of importance than they actually have.
People cannot find satisfaction in their own lives and look so much to celebrities for inspiration that their lives practically exist around celebrities. If we would actually think for ourselves instead of leaving it up to people in the spotlight, they would not tell us what to do.

Generally, we shouldn't. However, Bono does more than speak about these issues. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0095104/bio
It seems bizarre that we are willing praise celebrities for how well they act or how cute they are or how many sold-out concerts they have, but when someone wants to discuss ways to do good, he is attacked relentlessly.
