I have a 1990 Chrysler New yorker Fifth Avenue. We bought the car, it needed a new pullie. The guy said they don't make them metal anymore. So we gotten a plastic one. Then after that, we can't keep our belt on. It tears and fall off.
Started 2-3 months, now it's every 2 weeks. Can't afford belts coming and going all the time. Since we had gotten the car. Everything started to fall apart 2-3 months after. We can't afford to get another one. Then again, we can't afford to keep replacing all the darn time.
We got problems with the headlights, only one set. The door wanna jam sometime, the shocks, and needs two new tires on the back. Can someone help me, with the belt problem ???

It sounds like someone gave you the wrong pulley, or it is not installed properly, or you have a bad component in the system. I mean maybe the problem is one of the things the belt is driving. Like the water pump or something. If the belt is tearing up, something is causing that, obviously. So, look at the alignment of the pulleys, to see if they are all in a line. If even one pulley is out of line, or even loose, or has a bad bearing in it, that would put unusual strain on the belt. Check to see if all the components the belt is driving are in good order, and the pulleys on them are good.

Good luck.

Stevo.

Have you tried junk yards for a metal pulley? You could do some searching online too. The headlights you can live with only one set although it's a nuisance at night. The same with the door jamming. Put an add in the paper for tires - you might get lucky. You could also check a junk yard for them too. If money is a problem, and it sounds like it is, then you need to do some legwork and maybe repairs yourself. If others can do it, so can you. Good luck, I know how it is to have a vehicle nickle and dime you to the poorhouse!

check the alinement of everything the belt drives and all other pulleys. it sounds like you have something out of line or another bent pulley. new struts are about $75 each without springs. the headlight problem might be the dimmer switch, and the door could be an alinement issue or a sticky latch. i agree about trying to find a steel pully too

Check with a local auto junk yard or dismantler. You can call them and ask if they have any cars like yours. You can go and get the parts you need yourself off the junked cars. You have to take your own tools and you can get the parts for a steal.

I doubt if the pulley is aligned right...most new pulleys are plastic now..and should not pose additional problems that didn't exist before...I think it was installed wrong.
