STAR WARS !!!!

I think I answered this question already but it might have been someone else asking the question... ANYWAY...

NONE of the Star Wars movies are science fiction. They are WESTERNS, set in space. Buck Rogers, which George Lucas said was his inspiration for Star Wars, was ALSO a Western, set in the future. Science had VERY little to do either Star Wars or any of the other 5 gahzillion outer space shoot em ups (Battle Beyond the Stars, The Last Starfighter, etc)
"Bladerunner" is sci fi, with the Western motif thrown in again.
"Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is pure horror, not sci fi.
"Alien", "Aliens", more horror, little to no sci fi.
"Planet of the Apes" is ANTI-sci fi, extrapolation turned upside down. Man devolving? Into mute creatures? No sci fi HERE.
The point is, just cuz its set in space, doesnt make it science fiction. Zombie movies have more science fiction in them than most space operas.

Science Fiction is where the writer takes some proven or proveable scientific fact, a modern trend or current fad, extrapolates it, and hinges the story around it. "Soylent Green" is all science fiction, with horror mixed in. "Silent Running" or "Logan's Run" are almost as pure sci fi as you can get.

"2001: A Space Odyssey" is sci fi mixed with a LOT of fantasy. While I liked it, I have to admit my guiltiest sci fi pleasure is still either "The Core", or "Logan's Run". But if you see a space ship turning around IN SPACE, or hear their lasers blasting away in THE VACUUM OF SPACE, it aint sci fi, kids.

The original Star Wars Trilogy

The original War of The Worlds.
This movie was a low bugit movie, however, the technology that was used to make it was way ahead of it's time. The movie took a simple plot and turned it to a message to all of the world. not only was the special effects pretty good for a film of that time but what really was intersting was the ships that they used. I could go on but i won't you just have to see it for your self. Have funn
