The internet will last as long as people use it.

When statistics show that people don't use it anymore, that probably means that something better as come along. We won't miss the internet if that happened.

As far as companies are concerned, they are not "in the 21st century" if they don't have a website. You should be able to find any company you can think of on the web with their company name between www and either .com, .net, .org or some other domain.

The internet is for everyone. What you choose to do with it is another mather. If you choose to commit cyber crime, laws of free speech won't protect you.

Take the 2 kids who did the Columbine thing - they were on the internet and had websites. What if someone had said something and stopped them? Lives would've been saved, right? Laws of free speech shouldn't be used to get away with things you shouldn't be saying in the first place.

Anyway, the internet will be around for a long time.

It's been well said that "the cost of freedom is eternal vigilance." This applies to the Internet as well. If we go to sleep at the wheel, corporate interests will charge based on the "tier" system and all the little guys will be relegated to insignificant bypasses on the information highway. Support "Net Neutrality" every chance you get.
