$1500? I have never paid that much to fly to Japan. Where are you flying from? What airline are you checking? I have found the best thing to do is to check four airlines regularly, well, five, but I can explain that too. The airline that most often has the cheapest flights is United and if you check them regularly, then you can find sale prices, even during the peak times (summer, end/beginning of year and Golden Week [end of April to early May]). I have never paid over $900 for a ticket and I have been to Japan in all of the peak seasons. The next cheapest, but only if they have sales, is Japan Airlines. JAL is a much nicer airline than United. If you fly them both you will understand. The next one to check, but their flights are a little different is Northwest. You normally have a layover somewhere, but not normally too long. The fourth one is Air Canada, but they have layovers in Vancouver and often overnight, so be careful when checking their flights, but they sometimes have the cheapest flights. I also check Orbitz and Expedia just to get a general idea of the rates. It's very bad to buy tickets to go to Japan late, it's good to buy your tickets 3-6 months in advance as that's when they have the best fares. The last option is ANA (All Nippon Airwarys) which is actually flying on United, but sometimes, as strange as it sounds, the flight price is cheaper on ANA, though normally it's higher, which makes sense because it's a codeshare flight on an actual United Airlines flight. Airport codes to help your search: NRT - Tokyo Narita, HND - Tokyo Hanedo, KIX - Osaka Kansai, ITM - Osaka Itami, NGO - Nagoya Centrair, *** - Fukuoka, OIT - Oita, there are others, but you would probably use only NRT or KIX. Oops, I forgot about American Airlines. They don't normally have the best rates, but they sometimes have a sale too. It can't hurt to check. Also, the airlines often have lower prices on their direct sites versus those sales sites like Orbitz.

♡Check United Airlines Justin. The problem may be that if you are trying to book a flight between now and sometime in August, you may be getting the Obon season price. Many Japanese people take a big holiday then, so prices go way up. Try booking a weekday departure and return if possible and use economy class. During 'off season' you can even find flights for about $600 round trip. Also, WHERE are you flying from and WHEN? That may be a big factor in the price.
For example:

Hope this helps and hope you make it to Japan at a decent price. Good luck!♡
BTW, it's getting hotter and more humid day by day. If you're coming soon, bring cool, light clothes. Comfortable shoes, sunscreen and your sunglasses.
