I know a few couples who have done that. Nothing wrong with that...besides, it's YOUR day...you do it how you want it. lol

I don't see why not. All you really need when you get married is the bride/groom and maybe 2 close friends. And then coming back and having a reception would be the best way to go! IT will be a wedding that you will not forget. And you will not have all the craziness!!
Hope it all works out

Definately! It is your day and I think that i you want to get married in Jamaica, with your friends with you, it is great! The reception when you return is a good idea! That way people who may not be able to afford a trip to Jamaica to see you get married can wish you well.
You wedding day should be what you want it to be!

I think it depends on 3 things. 1) have you been married before? 2) do you already have children? 3) are both sets of parents around?
I have just got engaged and really don't want the stress and expense of a big (boring) wedding in england, i looked at going to Thailand or Hawaii to get married with just myself and my fiance, but then my dad told me that it would devaste my mother. I think if you haven't been married before, don't have any kids, and your mum/dad is still around - then it's important to have them present at the wedding, even if it's at a tropical destination. Then, you can have the big party when you get back for all your other friends and family.
I soon realised that my mother wouldn't go to Thailand, so i have settled for a fabulous wedding in Italy. have a look here for some great ideas http://www.kuoni.co.uk/weddings/index.html
Ultimately, the most important thing is that the bride and groom are there and that they are both happy! i wish you luck :-)

Absolutely. I use to dj for Complete Music and did several receptions like this. The only thing that I noticed is that for some unknown reason the crowd for one of these receptions isn't quite as lively.

Sure! My husband's family couldn't attend our wedding, so it was a very small affair (less than a dozen people in all, including the wedding party). We had the reception about 6 weeks later and had all our friends and family there. It worked out great.

Heck yeah it's acceptable. My cousin just eloped in Hawaii and there was a big reception for her when they got back. It's all about what YOU want at YOUR wedding.

Very acceptable. I do recommend inviting your immediate family, even if you ask them to pay their own way. My fiance and I live in NY and are planning a wedding in Las Vegas, luckily my father offered to pay to fly our immediate family out so they could all be there. Send out announcements and say that you regret not being able to invite all the people close to you but that you hope they will join you to celebrate upon your return.

It is acceptable to do what you want. This is your special day, and you do not have to set up things to please others. Start now being committed to what you and your soon to be spouse want. It will be much easier to put in-laws, relatives, and friends in their proper places when it comes to making any other decisions. Remember: 'For this cause shall a man leave mother and father and cleave to his wife'. (Genesis) Look up the word cleave so you can get the real meaning. You will be one, start off that way.

Sure! Why not? I'm sure the friends and family that aren't able to attend the wedding itself would still like to celebrate with you. Have fun.
