1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE with only 58,000 miles, the speedometer reads either 10 or 20 miles per hour higher than I'm actually going. What might be the cause of this and does it affect the ABS system?

Check the tire size label (on the driver's door jamb or in the glove compartment) and compare its requirements with the tires actually on the vehicle. It sounds like your tires are smaller than stock.

You might be able to get a new speedo drive gear from a dealer if you want to continue using your current tire size.

This may or may not affect the ABS on your vehicle, a dealer can advise you on that.

Do you have the original factory wheels and the standard size tire? Cause a different size wheel and different profile tire may account for some offset if so. Other than that , i'm not sure what would cause your problem , unless something somewhere is worn or broken, and i'm not sure if that would affect the ABS system. My wifes GA is the same yr / model as yours execpt it has 150.000 mi. on it , and i think the speedo is a bit off but not much. I check the ABS once a year when it snows on the road , going slow i hit the brakes to try and lock up the wheels , then i can feel the ABS pulsing them. lol
