I know that midwives can perform physicals and they are not considered medical doctors but I was wondering if holistic practitioners have the same opportunities. Most of them can give herbal medicine and treat people for things. I don't think midwives give herbal remedies.

What you need is a Naturopathic Physician, also known as Naturopathic Doctors and they use the initials ND or NMD. Naturopathic Physicians are doctors trained at 4 year medical schools, after receiving a bachelor's degree, who receive a similar education as Medical Doctors, but who are trained to primarily use natural therapies to help their patients.

Naturopathic Physicians are licensed as primary care doctors in 14 states plus D.C. You can go to www.naturopathic.org to find out more information and to locate a qualified doctor. In states that do not license Naturopathic Physicians, you must be careful to find a qualified doctor, because many people will claim to be naturopathic doctors, but have only completed a 6 month online course. They are able to do this because there are no regulations in those states on who can call themselves a Naturopathic Doctor.

Many states are working on licensure of Naturopathic Physicians and those states need your help to contact your legislators and ask them to license Naturopathic Physicians in your state.

The physical exam is the baliwick of the doctor. To put it bluntly, it's illegal for a non-doctor to claim to do this (practicing medicine without a license) and for good reason.

The types of professionals that do physical exams are primary care MD's, osteopaths, and chiropractors. A registered nurse can do some basic examination like blood pressure and vitals but is not qualified to do most of what is considered a physical exam. A physician's assistant on the other hand is qualified to do any and all physical exam (being specifically trained for this function), but not the diagnostic interpretation of that exam. They work ONLY under the supervision of a doctor.

Of the three people who do physical exam, the one most likely to be involved in "alternative" medicine is the chiropractor.

In california, the is some debate about doctor's of oriental medicine and physical exam. California is the only state that licenses this type of doctor, but it is unclear if true physical exam is in there scope of practice.

This is an imporant issue. Correct physical exam and diagnosis is what leads to effective treatment. I can guarentee that an unqualified person who claims to examine you is going to fail at this task, with all that implies (also, don't be surprised if you see them being lead off in handcuffs....exactly for this reason). Their treatment will be ineffective because of this. Worse, they may miss serious medical conditions. You definitely don't want that.

In ancient times man used to eat and treat by plants, which the nature has provided to us. He knew everything about them. But later Allopathy developed, which cured the desease in much lesser time than Aurvedic . People forgot the aurveda as well as the doctors of this pathy also forgot about these medicines. Accordingly our body became use to this allopathy. But still I believe that holilstic practitioners can do well
