Because they think farting and other types of "potty humor" are funny... I don't laugh when people fart. I run out of the room.

It's not the fart that makes them laugh, it is the look of horror on you face, and that funny waddle as you clutch you derrier and head for the bathroom!

social conditioning. the same people will say God bless you when you sneeze, and you pig when you burp. there seems to be a programmed response for every involuntary bodily function that humans experience.
