Ethically speaking, is there a difference between growing a tomato plant in your backyard and eating it, and growing a marijuana plant and smoking it - assuming that you are consuming both of these in the privacy of your own home, and not selling for profit?

He could be very smart, or a complete idiot. There are some very good reasons for growing your own Marijuana. 1. It's a lot cheaper than buying it from other people. 2. You always know what you're getting. You dont have to worry about it being laced. (Lacing Marijuana and not telling the buyer that it is laced is largely a Law Enforcement myth to scare people. If someone laces marijuana most likely they are gonna tell you and expect more money for it.) 3. You dont have to put yourself in risky situations to obtain. No riding through a bad neighborhood throwing your hand up to strangers. 4. You always have a supply and dont have to depend on someone else. 5. You control the quality and quantity. The only downside is that you may get busted by the police. States differ on the particular punishments for growing marijuana, but most places they are obscenely severe for a relatively harmless offense. Check your state laws. Also, tell him to stop telling people. - FTP

well it's wrong only cuz it's illegal... and I say the ONLY reason it is illegal is because the average Joe can grow this in his own back yard and sell it for profit and then the government has no control over... and they wouldn't get their share... taxes and etc....
but did you know you can cross breed a tomato plant and a marijuana plant and grow it and folks couldn't tell the difference in what you are growing...

Marijuana plants and tomato plants give off the same heat signiture so if you grow them together police helicopters will have a harder time using heat vision cameras to locate them.

So as long as you don't get caught your fine.

lets see, assuming you live in the US, is one of the plants considered illegal in the US and is one considered a drug that would do more harm to the human body? if everyone else thinks it should be ok once it's being consumed in one's own home, then more than half of the US would be too wasted to do anything useful for society.

I don't know where in Canada you live, but where I live, you can have a certain amount of marijuana for personal use and not get in trouble. As to your question.. technically there is a huge difference.. tomatoes aren't illegal, you can buy them in grocery stores and find them in a plethora of food..
POT.. kinda illegal

Yeah, marijuana is illegal. Tomatoes aren't. Just like sodomy is illegal in many states. Just because you do it in your own home, doesn't change that.

Personally, though, no. Who cares as long as everyone is consenting and no one gets (significantly ; ) hurt?

That is the way for the USA to win the war on drugs. If your plan was legal it would instantly kill marijuana trafficking in the USA.
