I read in a book that this 50-year old woman took cold showers and baths her whole life, and it actually helped with her complexion. One of my friends parents, a skin-care specialist, actually recommended it. Should I start taking these cold showers everyday, or is it just a waste of time??

Genetics are the key here....not cold water. Although too warm or hot can dry or traumatize the outer-most layer of the derma (skin) and the upper layers, in the long run it will not insure the prevention of wrinkles. Cold baths and showers will not cleanse the body properly anyway....warm water activates most cleansers and moisturizers in a skin/shower product. DRINK plenty of water...that is the key. Keep hydrated....that keeps the skin and your other internal organs healthy.

While yes it's true that hot water can cause your skin to become itchy and flaky, cold water does nothing beneficial for your skin. The ONLY way to protect the texture and colour and prevent wrinkles is to use a sunscreen EVERY day. Even when you are just going to work and back. The most damage that most people incur is while riding or driving in a car. Find a skin care routine that works well for you and use it twice a day. If you are still confused, talk to a consultant at a make-up counter. They can recommend products based solely on your concerns and skin care needs.

It depends upon your body and skin reaction!Look at the eskimo, how do they look?they have toned and young complexion as they grow old, maybe their body had a strong resistance against coldness! But me.myself use to take a bath with warm or hot water and I have a young and smooth complexion!Japanese secret is hot water bath that makes their skin silky and smooth!and other theory about hot water is that it will help reduce your body fats!If you would like effective results, take vit.E foods rich in protein, drink a lot of water, avoid fats and carbohydrates, don't smoke and drink too much and go to bed before midnight!

My mom always taught me to switch the water to cold a couple of minutes before ending my shower. She explained that the hot water opened up your pores which was good for cleaning your skin, but the cold water helped to close the pores, which is how you want them during the day to keep more impurities out.

Also she always taught me to use a tablespoon of vinegar in my shower rinse water to correct the pH balance of the hard water. REALLY!!! This makes your skin softer (like your legs, during the summer) and you can't detect the smell from such a small amount. When I was growing up, we actually had a bottle of vinegar in the shower.

You don't need any products right now. Your skin is still young and healthy, so keep it that way. Drink a lot of water and use sunscreen ALWAYS. Don't use tanning beds EVER. Keep your skin moisturized and don't slather your face in make up because it can damage your skin and leave your face wrinkly and flabby. The best skin is young skin, which is exactly what you have right now. Just take care of it and thirty years from now when all your friends are trying to botox their faces, you can smile in your young gorgeous skin!

I think that the cold showers are worth it. I take one every day, and not only is my complexion good, I have noticed that I have fewer acne-related breakouts. Cold showers are also good for blood circulation, and a great way to improve your energy levels.

That's too bad, because I could never give up my hot hot showers and baths. And every morning when I wake up I wash my face with a hot face cloth. So wrinkles come out come out wherever you are!!!

If you think about it, we have hot water because of mans inventions. Before that everyone took cold of cool baths. Hot water pulls the natural oils out of the skin and dries your skin out. So logically, cool water does just the opposite.

maybe not cold showers but cold water on your face... i know many ladies that depend on moisterizing their skin... all over and it keeps their skin supple (with exercise too of course) cold water just closes the blood supply to the skins surface .....
