Citalopram (Celexa) is in a class of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Citalopram affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. Citalopram is used to treat depression.

Some side effects of citalopram include:
* an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
* an irregular heartbeat or pulse;
* low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness);
* high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision); or
* chills or fever
* headache, tremor, nervousness, or anxiety;
* nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, or changes in appetite or weight;
* sleepiness or insomnia; or
* decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm.

Citalopram is the generic equivalent for a drug named Celexa. The drug is in a class of antidepressants called SSRIs. It works by correcting a chemical imbalance in your brain. It will take 4-6 weeks to see any effect from it. While your husband is on it, he may experience side effects such as euphoria, nausea, vomiting, headache and decreased libido. He should NOT stop taking the medication abruptly without consulting his doctor as the withdrawal symptoms from the medication can be troublesome and "flu" like. If he misses a dose, take it as soon as he rememebers. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the original regimine. DO NOT double doses. If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer them.

The most common side effects include: Diarrhea (3%), Nausea (7%), Sleepiness (8%), and Sexual dysfunction (8%). If you want him to take this, tell him that sexual dysfunction can sometimes mean delayed orgasm, which isn't a bad thing at all.
