These questions are sometimes unfair because you are asking a subjective opinion and oftentimes, unless it's asking for suggestions instead of favorites, the asker will just choose the answer who has the most ones that fit the asker's preferences.
It's doubly easy when one reveals their favorites.
Well, I'll play along. My favoriet multi-episode cartoon is Fushigi Yuugi. It's rather adult, but the character development with several major characters is amazing, and the relationships between people are more than a simple "Love/Like/Hate" There's one character who uses another, and another character you think loves one of two characters and hates a third, but it turns out she loves the third character. And a fourth character that you think is "Good" but is revealed to be "Bad" but redeems himself several times before the end of the series.
I also like the first season of Magic Knight Rayearth, up to about the 30th episode of Gensomaden Saiyuki, although I may watch more, and Cardcaptor Sakura. (NOT Cardcaptors)
