First of all, since they implemented the testing, the game is back to where it once was and the players are clean now. You can see the difference in good hitters from the average hitters. The thing about steroids and the game is that it is not going to make you a better hitter, it will not enhance your hand-eye coordination which is the most important part of hitting. Steroids will just help you hit the ball harder and farther when and if you make contact.
Steroid use was not limited to just the hitters, pitchers use them too. The reason for that was it reduced the recovery time after a start and closers/relievers could throw day after day and not feel any affects.
I do not think the game was ruined from the use and it had been going on for longer than people think. Look back at Canseco and McGwire when they were the "bash brothers", and they gained like 50 pounds in one off-season and were crushing balls everywhere and no one said anything back then. Everyone knew McGwire was on Andro when he broke Maris' record and no one really said a thing about it unitl Bonds went off and did what he did a few years later. The media has blown this thing out of proportion and it is not that big of a deal.

i find it funny that all the Lemmings are following along with what the media wants you to think. Let's take a minute a rewind the clock...I can remember 1998 when people were sitting around watching the National Highschool Cheerleader Championships waiting for ESPN to break into Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa's chase of Maris's record. Never once did you hear the word "steroids", never once did we hear how they were ruining the sport. When the "Bash Brothers" were destroying the leather off baseballs in the late 80's early 90's never did we hear the word "steroids", ignorance was bliss, right?. If you all mean to tell me that you never once, I mean once thought that these guys were juicing, then I need to tell you, you were living with your head in the clouds. If you did think it, then obviously you accepted it if you continued to watch and cheer the game.
My point is this: they did it, we cheered it. They got caught, and now we act like it is the worst thing ever to happen. Ignorance is not an excuse. Athletes do not get bigger, stronger, faster in their late 30's, early 40's...Ignorance is not an excuse.
Last point....Pitchers also juiced, but we never hear about that, so here is a point for you to ponder:
There hasn't been a "no-Hitter" in 2 years the longest period in baseball history between no-no's ....HMMMMMMMMMMM
Let's just accept it happened and move on from here.

Pitchers have been/are using roids too. I do not think roids is something new to MLB, I think it has been going on since the 80's maybe even the 70's. No one ever noticed then, because more players were into speed back then to enhance their performance. There is much more to getting hits and painting the strike zone in baseball than physical strength alone....it takes actual mental/muscle memory talent and experience. There is more also more "regular" reasons why players overall are stronger and more talented the guys of old...primarily innovations in sports training sciences. Better off-field medical care/rehabilitation of injuries and strength training/cardio programs that are more effective than the techniques and regiments of old.

I think baseball was initially ruined by the greed of the players and owners. I stopped watching after the first strike. But you're right that the steroid thing is just another nail in the coffin. Until we get some sports commissioners with better ethics, it won't change I'm afraid :-(

I would have to agree that it takes away from the naturally talented players. And it is unfair.
But it would be interesting to see what the game would be like if it was mandetory for every player to take performance enhancing drugs.

I don't think steroids can help to hit the ball.I will help to hit the ball farther but not to get the bat on the ball in the first place.
