since your page has less responses than Bono's then i shall answer on your page..........
There is no solution to poverty. Why should the homeless people get a job when people that actually work pay taxes, and medicare so that they can have food, and shelter AND EVEN medical assistance to where they don't have to pay ****.....I mean seriously...there are jobs out there if people wanted to end poverty, but like i said, why would the bums/homeless people want to give up free rent, free medical, free food?? You want to put an end to poverty? I say that you should go to homeless shelters and say that once an individual is in there they have 6 months to a year to find a job. If not, then they're out...on the streets without anything at all. And they should have a computer system where you enter the name of the individual so they won't be allowed to hop around from shelter to shelter like they do. Not only that....but you know...who care's about poverty in other countries when we have poverty in our own ******* country? What kind of **** is that?! It's like adoption. How is it fair to adopt from a different country when there are millions of abandoned children that need homes here in the United States? Maybe that will give you a little insight on how stupid that question is. And all of you saying that Bono should shut his mouth and all that....get a life....people are famous because they got off their butts and actually did something with thier lives instead of sticking with a dead end job.... so get over it!

Bono, if there was a perfect place to live, would you live there? Would you bring everyone else with you? Now, how long do you think it'd remain perfect? If the poorest people in the world were living in mansions and their worst illness was a pimple, we'd still try to eradicate poverty. It will always exist in some form, even if not as we know it today. But we can certainly ease the pain and suffering that we do see in our lifetime.
The kind of money you need to bring infrastructure, medicine, food can only be found in the private sector; and I'm talking about the billionaires. It’s difficult to watch $25 million homes being built, while someone like you, who’s so close to the source of need, could take even half that money and make life better for thousands of people.
We need to change the focus in our own countries. I just read one man’s response that said he wasn’t going to subscribe to your cause until he sees you living in a cardboard box. Although I can appreciate his frustration, there is a weakness in his ability to create change. We seem to lack the understanding that we have a choice, a chance, to make a difference.
A lot of people don’t even know what they could do to help. It’s not just the impoverished countries that need the education and awareness of issues. We could run programs in our schools starting as early as 5th grade where kids are taught the importance of their role as an individual in the survival of others. These kids will then be armed with the skill and the will to be contributors. Trying not to take away any responsibility from today’s adults, I’d like to say that it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks so we might as well start teaching them as puppies!
Thanks for all you’re doing.

I believe that if we suspend our Space Program, which costs billions of dollars per year, for just five years--all of that money could be used to find alternative fuel and to feed and help the poorest of the poor here, in the United States, and all of the starving people in Africa. Life is not out there--it is here on planet Earth. Just a few people benefit from the Space Program, and I am only asking for a five-year suspension. Those launches poke holes in our ozone layer and leave a huge plume of polluted air when they "blast off". We should fix what is wrong on Earth first.

I believe that we can do our part in many ways. Right now I am
being a total pain in the governments' butt. The Canadian government made a commitment - and I have been e-mailing all levels of the government and reminding them about this commitment. I don't expect that I will get a response, but I was suprised by my local MLA, who not only responded to my e-mail, but phoned me to talk about the issue!
I also have requested that friends join the ONE.org site. For my birthday last year, 10 people signed up.
I may not be able to financially help, but I sure can make my voice heard!!!

A world constitution must be developed by the UN. I think it should have many of the concepts of the US constitution and Bill of Rights. I do not think it should impose a US style of government however. I think that:
1. Every nation must be allowed to choose their government but the United Nations should guarantee the free and fair election for everyone in the country.
2. The UN must have the only access to nuclear weapons. The UN must have the best equipped and strongest military. The military would be used to guarantee the enforcement of the World Constitution and the World Bill of Rights.
3. Individual nations could have their own "National Guard", but offensive weapons would be limited under the constitution.
4. The UN would expand its programs for health and education.
5. Clean water would be given a priority since it is necessary to decrease water borne illnesses.
6. A world depart of commerce needs to be established.
Reducing the suffering caused by wars, militarily imposed dictatorships, governmental corruption, the arms race, weapons of mass destruction, disease, lack of educational opportunity, religious freedom can all be address by undertaking and enforcing a world Constitution and bill of rights.
The cost to develop a world constitution is minimal.
The cost to develop the UN Military is the cost of combining the US military, European and Asian military under one central command.
The cost to provide clean water in all regions of the world is offset by the reduction of disease and increase in commerce. There several very good examples in Africa,
Finally, the IMF must be reformed to improve the financing of growth.
Lets begin!

We, as citizens with access to information, need to keep up-to-date on what's going on in the world. Sign up for free e-newsletters from local and international NGO groups, read your community paper, read the news regularly, choose one alternative media source to read each week, etc.
We also need to understand where our personal values lie. What is most important to you? What means do you believe will make poverty history? i.e. renewable energy, democracy, citizen-engagement, equal opportunity, laws, etc.
And from this we need to make our consumer decisions based on information we receive combine with our values. Every purchse we make as consumers can have a significant impact on many levels of communities and people around the world. For instance, when you go to get your coffee in the morning or at the deadly mid afternoon slump....do you choose the Fair Trade blend or Maxwell House? Do you support farmers' markets?
These choices are so small but so important. It seems impossible to always be able to choose the product and brand that is ethical and sustainable...but the more we make that decision, the more major multi-national companies will turn their strategies in the right directly. Consumers control the market. Consumers can control much of the poverty experienced by low-wage workers working in dangerous factory conditions who barely make enough to feed themselves, let alone their families. Make companies hold their suppliers responsible for the well-being of their workers. Same goes with food distributors and the farmers they purchase from.
Spread the word to family and friends. Challenge them to do the same. Ask them questions, give them information and sources. Keep it in the forefront of your mind in order not to fall in the drone of 'everyday life'.
Remember what you value today and what will be valued in years to come.

firts thing is to get in public office middle class people. People who understand what a dollar is.
second, stop giving so much money to other countries. 10% is what we should give. Once a person has a decent education, a home should be given to the person working at a steady legal job. The home after 10 years would be given to the working person. If they continued to work steady, did not stay home(stay home if it was no falut of their one). That could help start.

We - the people - need to be more aware of what is going on in the world.
So we should exercise our influence on the media and demand more information on serious matters instead of empty chit-chat, celebrity worship and so-called "reality shows" which are totally unreal anyway.
We should also put more pressure on our politicians and demand their committment to a better and fairer world in which we all can live in peace and decency.
This includes especially putting pressure on the US government, asking them to stop their illegal wars and occupations of foreign countries, their aggressive policies and their world-wide cultural imperialism.
And we should - in our capacity as consumers - also actively and regularly boycott all poducts and companies that are supporting war, exploitation, slave labour and unfair conditions. (I am doing it for years and if more would follow my example, we could change their attitudes.)
