Yes it's possible to connect your HDD and optical drive to your motherboard through SATA connections. However, your motherboard, HDD, and optical drive need to support SATA. You don't need to worry about jumpers for master/slave configs as SATA automatically configures the drives for you.

SATA drives sometimes take in two different kinds of power sources: the 4-pin Molex and the SATA power connector. If your powersupply supports SATA power, you must be careful not to connect both SATA power connectors and the 4-pin Molex power connectors as that will fry your drive. You can choose one or the other as it doesn't matter.

your motherboard has to support sata, if it does there should be more than one place to insert sata cables if there is only one option use the sata cable on the hard drive you will benefit more by using it here. The jumper settings will be determined by the drives themself each device should have a small diagram on how to set the hardware, the jumper settings are diferrent for every manufacture. If your hard drive is IDE they make a sata to IDE adapter. This adapter is still slower than using a staight SATA hard drive. Hope this helps!

They do have SATA Harddrives and CD-ROMS, but you'll have to buy new ones to do so. You'll have to go looking somewhere like Pricegrabber or Pricewatch or google 'SATA CD Drive' to find one.

SATA HD are cheap. You can get 250gb for just under 100 USD delivered SATAII. Check and see which your MB takes SATA I or II and get an appropriate drive
