1) Review the material BEFORE class. Even if you don't understand it, the lecture will make more sense.
2)Take good notes during the lectures, and while reading the material.
3)Review your notes right after the lecture or reading, and copy them over so they will be easy to understand later.
4)This really helped me--Find a study place, get some kind of timer, get comfortable, and don't think about ANYTHING except what you're studying for a period of time--no I need to go to the bathroom, no I need something to during, no I need to call someone during this time. Start with a short period and work up to a couple hours.

First you need to make this a goal.
Make some adjustments to your schedule
to include study time. You'll need reminders
for a while and try putting on some of your
favorite music first this will get your mind
settled and than do a review on your subject
and high light topics that need more time
to fell refreshed. Have you thought of a
classmate that you can study with. Even
going to the library if it is not to far from where
you live or right at the school might
help you stay focused to study. Have fun
with it since this is something your doing
for your future. Check with your teacher
on some topic ideas that way your more
inclinded to do the best you can.

There's no such thing as "poor study skills", it's just that there's an old saying..."If u don't wanna do it, u got lots of reasons but If you really wanna do it, you'll find a way". If you really need to study? then go find a way and self control, learning makes you confident and a better person, GOOD LUCK!

Do all of the assigned homework, if not more. ASK QUESTIONS about the homework and concepts in class that you don't understand. Read as much as you can (books, newspaper, etc) to strengthen your reading comprehension and speed. If you are particularly struggling with a specific subject; seek the help of a tutor.
Most of all; approach school and education with a positive attitude, that you WILL do it and do WELL. Having a victorious outlook is much better than a defeatist attitude. After all, if you set yourself up to fail, you will. And who really wants to fail?

find a method that works better for you
so.. if you are not happy with the results you are getting from tests and so on.. then you need to change they way you are studying
everybody is different. for example if you are a visual learner draw pictures for yourself. for me personally, i study the best in a quiet room with no distractions and an empty head. trying to study when also talking on msn or the phone is quite difficult. i also study the night before the test because for me its all there the next morning.
good luck
