Unbelievable! Here's what you can do to fix your problem. First of all, Internet Explorer is your browser and it still is, otherwise you wouldn't have been able to get here, or make Yahoo your homepage. Now, look for "Tools" on the bottom line of your Toolbars and click there, move your pointer down to Menu Bar and click there, see the things on your page now? File Edit View Favorites Tools Help? Okay, that's you Menu Bar. Now go back to Tools and click there again, this time moving down to Toolbars and clicking there. You can choose either Google or Yahoo for your toolbar, or both. It's up to you. Personally, I use both toolbars because I find that each one has something to offer. Now you should have a homepage (Yahoo) that looks like it should. Come back and ask us when you need more help. Good luck! By the way, just do this one sentence at a time, don't let the length of my answer scare you, go though it one step at a time and you'll be fine.

I wonder if the Windows XP that you are using is a genuine one, frankly. Because the SP2 package is so made as to create problems for those running pirated versions.
What you are describing are the classic symptoms of a hijacker, and I find it rather hard to believe that Yahoo would hijack your pages.
In the case your system is a new purchase, I'd suggest you take it back to the person who sold it to you and have him validate your XP for you. It might be prudent for you to also do the online registering of your XP when you are there.
If you are knowingly using a pirated version, then you are prone to a lot of problems since the SPs do not cover most things for non-genuine users.
The only solution to this, in that case, is for you to get the genuine XP loaded.
Otherwise the tools>internet options>use blank>apply>OK should've resolved this issue long ago.
Cheers.

Personally I have never experienced problems changing my hompage. This is what I would try if I did experience this.
Go to the page you desire to be your homepage\go to Internet Options\General and select Use Current\Delete your Cookies, and Temporary files and clear all History\Click OK\Reboot immediately. If this does not work you may have Spyware, or Browser Hijacker preventing you from changing. Remove all 3rd party toolbars from IE if any are present, including Yahoo Toolbar. Run anti-spy software/anti-virus software. Last resort research a software program called Hijack This (free download). I say research because this program can produce destructive results if used improperly, and re-installation of your OS could be a result.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Are you using any security software? It is common for spyware to hijack your browser's homepage and/or default search page. To fight these malware, there are several security software programs that lock Internet Explorer settings, including: Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender,Winpatrol and SpywareBlaster. This is not an exhaustive lists. Try looking through your security software and see if there is a setting to lock IE's control settings.

It could be some sort of malware that keeps changing it back, or when you install yahoo software, they ask if you want yahoo.com as homepage, but it is buried in the options and often it is left checked.
