Mannheim Man does have a point. However, the legal answer is as follows: It's tru that in Texas, if a father gives up his parental rights, he no longer has to pay child support. But, that's only in the case of an adoption: For example, if the mom's new husband wants to adopt the child as his own, he cannot do it unless you first relinquish your parental rights. Once you do so, you are no longer obligated (legally) to pay child support because the child has a new father.

Now, the reality check: Why in the world would you ever consider giving taking a child's father (yourself) away from him? That is such a hurtful thing to do to a child, especially for the selfish reason of not wanting to pay for his upbringing.

Luckily, no state allows you to give up your parental rights just to weasel out of your obligations. You make the children, you pay for them. Let's hope the apple fell a little further from the tree this time.

The state of Texas will not allow a man to bastard a child, unless it's in preperation for adoption. Child support will continue till the adoption is final.

the only support he will have to pay is backchild support if any is owed but you cant just sign over your rights for no reason there has to be an adoption in the mix as well

He does not have to pay child support.

But if he owes child support (he is behind) when he files, he still must pay what he owes. Texas is strict about making sure Mom's get their money.
