It is the difference between a degree in a Science and an Arts subject. And what karkondrite says, it is not true of all Arts subjects but certainly true of Mickey Mouse degrees like Media Studies, Business Studies, Management and Art History. And some subjects can be done as as Art or a Science, e.g. Geography.
Best to do a BSc, more people will respect you.

BSc = Batchelor of Science.
Normally if you study Maths, ICT, Science (obviously) or any other subject which often has a definitive answer to a question.
BA = Batchelor of Art
Normally if you study a subject which can be more subjective and opinionated. eg English, Art, Music, Humanities etc.
BEd = Batchelor of Education
Given if you study a subject with a view to becoming a teacher (often 4 years and the depth of subject knowledge is not as deep)
PGCE = Post Graduate Certificate in Education
A teaching certificate (1 year) taken by those who wish to be teachers and already have a BSc or BA in thier chosen subject.
Hope this helps.
