the screen dims because the battery puts the laptop in energy saver mode which automatically has a dimmer screen setting. To raise the brightness hit the fn key and then the up arrow

The answers are already there but let me elaborate - the laptop would have certain power settings which would optimize the battery power and in turn help you run the laptop for more hours. If you want to improve the display settings, then you would need to go to the power settings mode and check for the current options that are set and change them to suit the brightness you want or match it with the brightness setting of the AC (not air conditioner :)) power settings. Voila! Brightness comes back into your life...

in my case, screen dims and wi-fi is disabled

this, in order to save power and extend battery power
u can disable by clicking on battery symbol in taskbar, which opens power properties / power management - but then battery gets discharged faster

there is a setting in the bios for that under power settings, it expands your battery time cause the screen uses a lot of power, it is just cutting power to it. boot into your setup or bios settings, find the power options, and change to max performance, and see if there is a seperate setting for screen bightness, it should be there

Right click on a blank spot on your DESKTOP and pick PROPERTIES. This is the desktop section of the Control Panel.

Go into the Screen Saver section and click on the POWER button. You should see the settings there for your laptop.

My new HP Laptop does that as well. I looked in the power options and there isn't an option that allows me to disable it so I would assume it does the same for you.
