If the differential is fine. Wheel bearings are a likely possibility. They may need greased, but if you have ignored them and they are "roaring" then it's likely you will need to replace them. Have it checked out by a qualified mechanic. It's not ridiculously expensive but unchecked could cause further damage.

Could be the rear hubs. Any number of things. Without hearing it, it's difficult to tell. It's like saying your engine is making a funny noise.

differential - could be low on oil or about shot...the car is 17 years old!
