I actually think it's good because of the fact that there is no monthly subscription, and if you miss a programme you want to see on BBC or ITV you can bet it will be repeated on Freeview channels.
Film Four is starting on Channel 31 on 23 July too. For FREE.
My husband and I enjoy quite a lot on the UKTVHistory channel, and of course the kids just LOVE CBeebies. In fact I would go as far as to say that if you have children, Freeview is worth it just for the childrens channels.
Also if you find some channels irritating like the auction channels you mentioned, just don't set them to appear in your favourites list.

You get a bunch of different channels, and no monthly bill. That's got millions of people into digital tv, which they need to do over the next few years before the traditional signal gets switched off.
Besides, if you buy a Freeview box with a built in digital video recorder, you can easily program it to record what you want to watch. Much easier than a normal VCR, because it's linked into the programme guide on the TV.

most of freeview, like most of tv in general is crap. but there are a few gems.
more 4 has some great documentaries sometimes, and the daily show, ITV 3 is a bit crap, but ITV 4 has a really odd, interesting mix of stuff, and sometimes programmes stuff really out of left field.
BBC 3, for the most part is underwhelming, but also has some of the BBCs coolest most innovative shows, like The Mighty Boosh and Monkeydust. BBC 4 can be spotty, but its music documentaries are brilliant, with old concert footage, getting into very obscure interviews.
And of course the best bit of freeview is that it is free. Digital TV is where everyone will be in a couple of years, its going to have good stuff and rubbish, like all telly.

Yes, i have it in my room upstairs and cant get ITV channels, also they took away Men and Motors and replaced it with a crappy ITV quizcall game, (that i cant get anyway). Seems like they are targeting all those people who appear on shows like Jeremy Kyle and Trisha to con them into thinking they can win thousands, but the only winners are the TV and Phone company execs!! If you think you can win then phone up. Let us all know if you have won anything and how much of those winnings will go on your next phone bill!! My freeview channels downstairs in the kitchen are crap , but 20 feet away in the lounge it's perfect! And both connected to exterior aerial!!

What does it cost, you can get a digibox for 30 quid upwards. Most of the stuff on the more obscure channels is pointless, but their is normally something on there if you want brain candy. And I think Film Four is coming to freeview soon isn't it? Personally, UKHistory is the one for me, if Ray Mears is on. But sometimes it appears to be permanently screenign programmes about Fred Dibner, and I really can't stand that northern tosser. Who cares about traction engines and chimneys?

I have it in my room and it is absolutely rubbish, the only good thing is e4 and the programmes are usually repeated on channel 4 anyway.
Also i hate that ABC1 only goes up till 6pm that is just so annoying because that means, i can never get to watch the guardian.

yes but can you buy a box like this for analogue TV
http://www.firebox.com/index.html?dir=firebox&action=product&pid=1202&aff=1250
no because to record on a hard disc drive it needs to be digital so if you ask me digital freeview is the best but only because of the cool devieces like this one that you can get for freeview, by the way i WILL own one of these boxs some day, incase you didn't read the description it allows you to view 2, yes TWO channels at the same time, is that cool or what?
:o)

I once had a bit of a thing for one of the members of Liberty X and was please to find their videos got regular play on The Hits and TMF. I've gone off her now and would have to concede that yes, Freeview is a bit rubbish. Although BBC4 shows some good films and documentaries that you wouldn't otherwise get to see.

Freeview would be much better if they didn't allow advertising for Top Up TV etc etc. I mean it screws up the whole concept of the "Free" in Freeview.

What about this beautiful diamonique ring, or a "v slicer",
or what about the paint kit they use in tuxedo's.
E4 is good to have, I can watch deal or no deal when I get home from work and they always show Lost first.
Oh, and BBC3 shows lots of new programmes first too!!!
