Since this is in the Philosophy section and not the religion section, I will offer you my attempt at this question from a philosophers perspective. You cannot prove the existence of God and therefore cannot disprove it either. Therefore it is equally foolish to accept or deny God's existence. The answer therefore is this...
If it is something that truly matters to you, keep searching for the truth, otherwise just try to be the best person you can be.

I love this question and some of the responses. My favs are the people that point to the bible and say there is your proof. People...the bible is a book, not a reference manual!!! Nobody can prove a god exists...NOBODY! Ask a Chirstian to prove their god exists without using the bible, a quote from some evangelist, or they are not allowed to use the "miracle of life (which is simple biology by the way), not allowed to say "god spoke to me" without proof(hell, Jerry lewis spoke to me in a dream once), and they simply can not do it. Gods existed throughout histroy. The Greeks had gods...the Romans...the ancient Egyptians, the Mayans...these people (and others) all believed in their god(s) as fervently as any Christian believes in their's. So in answer to your question....god does not exist....never did...doesn't now....and never will. Get over it people! As a side note....one of the perks of not believing in god is I don't believe that a devil exists. I KNOW that SOB doesn't exist...offered him my soul in exchange for a new motorcycle the other day. The old one is still sitting in the garage...the cheap sumbytch!

God has been in the mind of humanity since the beginnings of tiime because he/she/it was created by humans to explain what their science of the time couldn't...for example: lightening, the sunrise/sunset, the moon, comets, eclipses, etc. As Science became more capable of answering basic questions the God(s) evolved into one God. Example: When it was discovered that the Earth's crust merely covers molten material that periodically spurts through than Volcanos were explained and there was no longer need for a God of the Volcano. God exists today to continue as an excuse for people/societies to take inappropriate action in his/her/it's name or to answer the questions that science is still pondering.

I cannot see, touch, hear, smell or taste God. These are the only senses by which I receive information. God's existence has not been revealed to me through any of them. Therefore I do not believe that God exists.
The above works equally well with Santa, the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy.

i've read a lot of the answers on this question and in my opinion there is no such thing as a god ... as for the bible that is just a story book that was written by a few very clever men a few centuries ago ... i can't believe there is so many people out in the world today that say there is such a thing as a god with all pain and suffering that goes on ... i'm sorry if i upset anyone with my opinion but tthis is rammed down our throats at a very young age and that is why we as a human race believe in all this rubbish when i see proof that something exsists then i might believe until then ........................

Of course god exists, you only to have a look around you at the beautiful things he gave us, nature for instance, the beautiful flowers and trees and animals too numerous to mention,we live in a beautiful world.
Of course there is evil and wickedness in our world but these are man made and not from god.

If you Like. Its all about faith, he refuses to confirm his existence because this world is a testing ground for souls to see where they will spend eternity. If you look around very carefully you will see the evidence for yourself if you want to believe enough.
That Said. Probably not as the above in bunkum, but there may be a guiding ultimate power the likes of which will reveal itself when we reach a sufficient ethical level.
Alternatively we can say we are alone in our part of the universe and always will be. A purely biological explanation of our self awareness grown out of selection to enhance our abilities to survive to pass on our genes to the next generation.
Take your pick, its your choice just be comfortable with conclusions you draw.

I'm quite surprised at the number of people answering Yes to this question. I suppose much depends on what countries have the most citizens on the Net.
Of course the wise realise that the answer is that it doesn't really matter whether it/she/he exists or not: find your own Way.

"God" was made up by power hungry men, who knew human beings would believe anything, still today thousands of years later more than half the world believes in their god, that is true power. There is a higher being but there is no god of which we are lead to believe exists.
