Does vintage auto ignition key go in with cut (grooved) side UP or with the cut side DOWN?

On vintage and classic Ford and GM autos (years 1940 'and '50's) is the ignition key inserted into the ignition with the cut side up or the cut side down. Thanks.

Ford and GM = Cut side down

Chrysler = Cut side up

GM - Cut side down
Chrysler - cut side up
Ford - cut side down (or double sided)
